As an ethnographer who deeply engages with and documents the cultural and social dynamics of communities, I am committed to advancing social and racial justice through projects informed by the lived experiences and expertise of people of color. I speak, teach, and write on these topics.
My varied interests and expertise have led to collaborations with academic, non-governmental, and arts and cultural institutions such as the Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts + Culture, the Water Institute of the Gulf, the Science and Resilience Institute at Jamaica Bay, and the Princeton University Art Museum. My work has been supported by national grants and foundations including the Wenner-Gren Foundation for Anthropological Research, the National Academies of Sciences, the Wallace Foundation for the Arts (in partnership with the Social Science Research Council), and the National Science Foundation, among others.
